Primary Support Mechanism: This example illustrates when attacking: We shall refer to this example as “3PS“. If we look at the 3, we require that the 5, 8, 10 and 11 are the Primary targets for a pass. Where the philosophy (or tactic) becomes difficult, is that within this system, the 5, 8, 10 and 11 must increase their work rate significantly in order for this tactic to be effective. The 3 must have four primary pass options. Furthermore, the 3 must select the best option and make a successful pass. This relates to their Soccer IQ and passing skills which are described within the player’s TIC. Now the 5, 8, 10 and 11 must increase their work rate, create separation, position themselves to receive a pass and must be able to control a pass. This is also described in the player’s TIC. In addition, the 9 and GK become Secondary pass options, which we will discuss later in greater detail.

Intelligence Analysis:
The Power of One
Lofaro’s philosophy is based on the following premise: that each position has a requirement for a specific skill set. For example, attributes for the 5 are much different compared to the 3, even though they are both considered “Defenders”. The same applies to the 8 and the 6 (Midfielders) or the 11 and the 9 (Forwards/Strikers). Within the Total Team Dynamic, one player makes the difference and that one particular player is actually every player on the field. Whether attacking or defending, every player has a responsibility according to their position. Furthermore, not every player has the same skill set, but every position requires a certain skill set. Lofaro’s philosophy is based on a “Talent Identification Coefficient” (“TIC”) and its related position. The maximum value that a player can attain is “1.0” based on 20 unique talent categories. This will enable coaches to categorically select players that they have available to them and position them according to their skill set. The breakdown of the TIC will be discussed later in greater detail.
Theory of Critical Thinking: Cognitive mechanisms and strategies involved in intelligence analysis are derived from a collection of data based on interpretation. This data, above all else, must be unbiased and accurate. To simplify this terminology, talent identification must be exact.
